Enjoyed perhaps the last sunny Saturday of the year with a picnic and wild swim at Beckenham Lake at the weekend.

Such a lush day for it! Had an far less terrifying experience at @hernehillvelodrome second time round. Something about being on my trusty steed Julianne (breaks included) made me feel altogether much more secure.

I didn't ever think I'd like track, presuming riding round and round in circles would be a bit boring. But I was completely wrong and have fallen completely in love with it❤️

In an increasingly complex, over stimulating world it feels amazing to do something so simple.

Plus, no fear of death caused by a car, pedestrian acting like a lemming or giant lorry, bus or van squashing me.

What a joy!

Not going to lie, I've been putting off trying out

Not going to lie, I've been putting off trying out @hernehillvelodrome for an age due to sheer unbridled fear of a fixie and a 45 degree angle.

In my mind breaks simply should always, always be something one has on their bike. And as freewheeling is one of the greatest joys of cycling you should never be on a machine where that is impossible.

I finally pushed through that fear, felt in control and booked a taster session. Then all that fear came flooding back as I wheeled out onto the track surrounded by other humans I was immediately terrified I would run into.

I definitely had issues stopping, and I'm not embarrassed to say I had to do the lap of shame twice. But, having said all that, I bloody loved it! I was so overjoyed I went "weeeeeeeee" nearly every time I went down the banking.

It will be a while before I master track skills I think as I seem to have some issues I didn't realise judging speed. However, it's awesome to be having a completely different experience on a bike and learning something new. And I'm super happy I pushed through the fear as there's some serious joy on the other side of it!

Do you ever look at someone and think, man I would give anything to be like you?!

That's how I feel when I watch @aliactionjackson casually throwing down some serious dance moves whilst dressed in lycra, next to a road bike.

I love few things in this life more than discovering what other people are obsessed with. The more niche the better.

As someone who has always become pretty enamoured with things (cycling, Korean horror films, Soviet architecture) I take great solace in seeing I'm not the only one out there who can get a bit lost in stuff.

Which is why I'm very excited to start End to End: A Tale of Obsession, Hallucination and Happiness by @pbj_76 so I can discover more about the people who become obsessed with the bonkers idea of cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
