Last week I was riding along and found a group of gulls playing in the air. I rode through them and for a brief moment felt as if I was one of them. My wheels were my wings and I was playing too.

How do you define success???

I've been pondering what "success" looks like in my own life for as long as I can remember. And since quitting my proper job for life on a farm recently, it's really been on my mind.

I presumed incredibly successful cyclists didn't ever worry about success, as they were so obviously successful. This was until I spoke to someone who said their biggest bouts of depression came after their biggest wins. I've been confused by that ever since.

I've written a little something about my musings, including a few thoughts on who will, or won't, feel successful on the back of this year's Tour.

Last week was a life changing one, I left my "proper" job, it's salary and security, all behind in pursuit of something that makes me cry less. To help me deal with the emotions I knew this would throw up I took myself, my bike Julian and my laptop on a little getaway to Derbyshire.

We had an amazing time. As you can see, even the journey from Macclesfield station to where I was staying in New Mills was a delight.
